- Forms first Hawaiian Band “Backyard Paina” with Trevor Ishihara, Keola Baretto, and Michael Salsedo
自身初のバンド”Backyard Paina”をマイケル・サルセド、ケオラ・バレット、トレバー・イシハラと結成。
- 1999年
- Starts first regular “gig” at Scoozies in Ward Centre
ワードセンターのスクージーズにてレギュラーライブをスタート。
- 2001年
- Backyard Paina (BYP) starts 7 year run at the Mai Tai Bar Ala Moana
バンド”バックヤード・パイナ” アラモアナ”マイタイ・バー”にて演奏、７年続く。
- 2004年
- Records and releases first CD “Proud to Be”
CD”プラウド・トゥ・ビー”発売。
- 2008年
- Moves to Okazaki, Aichi Japan and starts playing at Locos Hawaiian Kitchen in Toyota.
愛知県岡崎市に移住。豊田市にあるハワイアンキッチン”ロコス”にて演奏開始 現在も続く。
- 2013年
- Releases 2nd album “Born of Song”
セカンドアルバム（日本デビューアルバム） “ボーン・オブ・ソング" 発売。
- 2014年
- ハワイのグラミー賞とも言われるNa Hoku Hanohano AwardのINTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION ALBUM OF THE YEAR部門に、"Born Of Song"がノミネート。
Profile
出身はハワイ・オアフ島、現在は愛知県岡崎市に在住。ホノルルのワイパフ（厳密にはワイピオ・ジェントリー）で産まれる。
幼い頃から音楽に目覚め、10歳の時に演奏を学びはじめる。
ロックからレゲエまで様々なスタイルの音楽を経てハワイアンに行き着く。
22歳の時にカカアコ海岸から、プロミュージシャンとしてのキャリアをスタート。 毎週月曜の夜遅くまでビールを飲みながら”ホノルル・ジャミン・ハワイアン”や”ハパハオレ・チューン”などを演奏する。
ジャムセッションを繰り返すうちハワイアンミュージックに親しみを覚え1997年に ”バックヤード・パアイナ” バンドを結成。
このバンドは文字通り”バレットズ”のバックヤードで演奏し、バンドとしてのスタートはワードセンターにある”スクージーズ”にて
毎週金曜日の夜に出演。その後”ミラマー・ホテル”のロビーにある”ザ・バナナ・ビーチ・ラウンジ”にて火曜日の夜にレギュラー出演。
当時は毎晩2～10人ほどしかお客さんいない中、3年が過ぎる。
そして2001年転機が訪れる。”バックヤード・パアイナ”はアラモアナ・センターにある”マイタイバー”での レギュラー出演という大きな飛躍をする。 その後ハワイアンミュージックの観点からは休息と思われるが、彼は一時的にロック・カバー・バンドとして 有名な”サムズ・ガーデン”に加入。ロックは彼をアツくしたが、心にはいつもハワイアン・ミュージックがあった。
2008年、イアン・シロマはオアフ島を離れ 彼の妻の故郷である愛知県岡崎市に移住。そして2010年、長男”カイ・カラニ”が誕生。
イアンの音楽活動は地元のみにとどまらず仙台から福岡まで日本各地まで広がる。
現在、愛知で出会った”對馬健太郎”と”徳永献一”と共に”ロコス・ブレンド・バンド”を結成し活動する。

Originally from the island of Oahu, but now living in Okazaki, Aichi Japan. Born in Honolulu, raised in Waipahu (Wapio Gentry to be exact). Fell in love with music at an early age, and learned how to play by the age of 10. Experimented with a range of styles from rock to reggae and finally settling in with the music of Hawaii.
First started his foray in to professional music at the age of 22 on the shores of Kaka’ako, Honolulu jammin Hawaiian and Hapa-haole tunes while drinking beer at the park late Monday nights.
It was through these “jam sessions” that he discovered his affinity for Hawaiian music. In 1997,
started a band called Backyard Pa`ina, quite literally in the backyard of the Barretto’s.
Started playing Friday nights at Scoozies in Ward Centre, and later The Banana Patch Lounge
in the lobby of the Miramar Hotel on Tuesdays. Entertained immense crowds of 2-10 people per night for almost 3 years.
In 2001, Backyard Pa`ina made the big jump to the Mai Tai Bar in Ala Moana Center, and the rest as you say is history.
In addition, he performed briefly with a rock cover band known as Sam’s Garage. Rock was his passion, but Hawaiian has always been his heart.
In 2008, Ian left the islands for his wife’s home in Aichi, Japan. In 2010, he welcomed the birth of his first son, Kai Kalani. Ian continues to play music all over Japan from Sendai to Fukuoka. Currently plays with the “Locos Blend” band with Kentaro Tsushima and Kenichi Tokunaga.
